New Books for Expectant Moms from Meadowbrook Press:

The Official Lamaze Guide (2nd Edition)
This new edition has been updated to reflect the latest evidence-based research on pregnancy and childbirth. Since the first edition, childbirth in the U.S. has gotten riskier. The cesarean rate has continued to rise; now almost one third of women in the U.S. have a cesarean. There’s been a shocking rise in the maternal mortality rate. More babies are admitted to NICUs, and there’s been an alarming increase in incidences of postpartum depression and post traumatic stress disorder related to childbirth. Guía sencilla para tener un bebé (Spanish Edition of The Simple Guide to Having a Baby)
This Spanish edition of The Simple Guide to Having a Baby is available at the same price as the English edition—a welcome change for healthcare organizations, hospitals, clinics, and childbirth educators who had been paying significantly more for an imported Spanish edition. While breastfeeding is a breeze for some moms, for others it can be a challenge. If you are having difficulty producing enough milk for your little one, consider MilkMakers.

MilkMakers are cookies that come packed with ingredients that help increase your milk supply like oats, brewer’s yeast and flax seed. Moms are advised to eat one to two MilkMakers each day to increase milk supply. And the packages can be stored in the freezer to maintain freshness.

Maternity and Motherhood Monday: Heidi Klum’s New Maternity Collections

I love Heidi Klum. I usually don’t care about celebs, but I like Heidi’s spirit. She seems to really value motherhood, her husband, as well as her life as a businesswomen. Love that!

Heidi is coming out with two new maternity collections that have people excited. They officially launch both in Motherhood Maternity and A Pea In the Pod stores nationwide as well as online on February 12, 2010.

Her two collections include the 15-piece Lavish and 14-piece Loved. They promise to deliver supermodel style at the Motherhood price point.

Above is the flyer I received this weekend announcing the collections. I’m really looking forward to seeing them when they hit the racks.

If you visit as many mom blogs and parenting sites as I do, then you know there are a plethora of companies out there that make organic clothes for babies and toddlers. How can you tell them apart?

Different companies have different styles. That’s a given. But when companies go beyond the call of duty and give back to charity and make the working conditions better for those laborers who manufacture their end product, that makes me very content and that’s a deal-sealer for me.

Funkoos not only had hip styles for your little one, they also manufacture their products in fair-trade factories that are certified by Global Organic Textile Standards.

New Couture Maternity Collection By Project Runway’s Christian Siriano

fm_cover1I am a huge Project Runway fan; always have been, always will be no matter what channel it finally winds up on. It was no surprise to me that Christian Siriano, who ultimately won season 4, was the most talented designer on the show even though he was the youngest of the bunch. Now back in the real world of design he is using his skills to create collections for women that are, in a word, stunning. First, he threw his creative talents at women’s feet by creating an exclusive shoe collection for Payless. And now he has created a couture maternity line for fashionable expectant moms for Moody Mamas

Christian’s line of maternity wear, FierceMamas for Moody12-cute-cowlneck-bress-blue-11 Mamas, is not dirt cheap, but nothing that is well-designed is. But, the price is certainly reasonable. Tops range in price from $55 to $119 and his maternity dresses run from $65 to $246. Fierce Mamas for Moody Mamas by Christian Siriano is suitable for the office, a daytime or evening party and even a casual night out on the town. All of the interchangeable pieces are priced under $300 and range from a size small to x-large. Go to to find out where to buy the collection.
